Now you can protect Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 workstation environments as part of your imagebased backup and disaster recovery goals.

• Take full advantage of enhanced data integrity, availability, and scalability offered by Windows Resilient File System (ReFS) and achieve comprehensive data protection.

 

• Virtualize with Hyper-V v3.0 and feel confident that your data is protected. • CA ARCserve® Central Host Based VM Backup (VMware VMs Only) includes all the same Windows Server 2012 support listed above for CA ARCserve D2D. 

 

• CA ARCserve® Central Virtual Standby now supports “remote standby” across a Wide Area Network through integration with CA ARCserve® Replication. Customers and Partners like MSPs can now replicate CA ARCserve D2D recovery points to a remote site and then automatically convert the recovery points to VM format and quickly stand them up after a production server failure for fast system recovery. This application also now supports failover of Hyper-V v3.0 VMs. *Note: Remote Virtual Standby does not offer the heartbeat monitoring and automated failover options that are available when deploying Central Virtual Standby locally.

• Users can now perform faster data recovery during a large Merge process by suspending the Merge temporarily. The Merge process combines the most recent incremental backup into the full image backup base as part of the infinite incremental process. Users will also have the option to run the Merge job within a specified time period thereby allowing flexibility in the job schedule.

• Support for Fujitsu Global Cloud Platform FGCP/A5. The Fujitsu Global Cloud Platform is the result of a partnership between Fujitsu and Microsoft to provide Azure cloud services running on Fujitsu data centers. It adds another public cloud option for CA ARCserve D2D customers to use for offsite data protection and archiving.  
• Support for Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Japan. Now customers in Japan can be confident their data resides in-country.  
• Connect to CA ARCserve Live Chat right from the GUI so administrators can access online technical support which makes using CA ARCserve D2D even easier.  
• Animated Tray Monitor Icon so administrators can simply mouse-over the icon and obtain job status to better manage backup and recovery.  

Important! The installation of CA ARCserve D2D r16, Update 6 will also update drivers and require a reboot upon completion. If you are installing the update (triggered from the user interface or tray monitor) then your machine will automatically reboot after the upgrade is successfully completed. As a result, you should save all data before starting the installation of this update. If a reboot is not desirable at this time, you should consider postponing the installation of Update 6 until a later time.

The following new features and enhancements have been added to CA ARCserve D2D for this update:

UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) Support – UEFI is a firmware interface that Windows Vista SP2 (x64), Windows 2008 (x64), Windows 2008 R2, and Windows 7 (x64) supports. CA ARCserve D2D includes the following UEFI Support:

• Computers that adhere to the Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) use the EFI System Partition, which is a partition on a data storage device. The EFI System partition is critical for Bare Metal Recovery (BMR). Therefore, when you select boot volume “C” on a UEFI system, the EFI System Partition is selected automatically for the backup source for BMR and an information message is displayed.
• To perform BMR for a UEFI system, you must boot the computer in UEFI mode. BMR does not support restoring a computer with different firmware.

Mount Recovery Point – Provides the ability to mount a recovery point to a drive letter (volume) or an NTFS folder, to view, browse, copy, or open the backup files directly in Windows Explorer.

• Email Notification is enhanced so it now sends Email alerts and notifications as ‘High Importance’ for all failed/crashed jobs. ‘Test Email’ button on the Email Settings dialog in the Preferences Settings. This button when clicked will send a test notification to users as confirmation that the configured email settings are correct.

• CA ARCserve D2D now allows you to reserve space on the backup destination. With this function users can set the percentage of space that needs to be reserved for the backup. Before the backup starts the specified amount of space is already reserved.

It is available on the SWATBLOG website under “All Products & Documents” -> CA ARCserve RHA -> Tools”.

This is currently for inside CA employees. You should check with your manager before giving it to a customer. Remember, there is no promised support for this tool.

The tool requires Microsoft Access to be installed to run properly.

• You can now deploy CA ARCserve Replication and High Availability in NAT (Network Address Translation) environments. This capability lets the CA ARCserve RHA Engine run behind a firewall without having to communicate through a virtual private network.
• Full System scenarios now support reverse replication and switchback. This capability lets you recover full systems with minimal down time and minimal loss of data.
• You can now perform bare metal recovery operations when you need to recover servers from a disaster.
• You can now specify to take a snapshot of the data while creating bookmarks.
• The bandwidth scheduler now lets you configure hourly bandwidth settings for the entire week.

• Advanced Scheduling–Provides a more flexible way to configure the backup job schedule, specify the backup throttle schedule, and the backup retention policy.
• Catalog-less Backup–File system catalog generation might be a time consuming task. With this feature you can choose not to generate a catalog file with every backup, and still be able to do a file level restore. This reduces the backup time window.

Integrate CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager with IT Management Server Tools: The CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager server monitors nodes where CA ARCserve D2D is installed. When the CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager server detects alert conditions from a server that is running a supported application, it sends the alerts to the Nimsoft or Kaseya agent that is installed on the CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager server. The Nimsoft or Kaseya agent then sends the alert messages immediately to the Nimsoft or Kaseya server. Nimsoft and Kaseya administrators can then perform remedial actions on the detected servers.

CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager monitors alert conditions that originate from the following applications:

• CA ARCserve D2D
• CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager
• CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup
• CA ARCserve Central Virtual Standby

This update is currently available via the Central Protection Manager software update feature.
